Teaching Rhyming

One of my listservs has been pretty active lately on the topic of teaching rhyme. It has been an interesting topic, because the person interested in ideas has already tried many strategies to help her particular student master the concept.

So it made me think...how many different strategies and different materials would help teach the concept of rhyming.

I just found your blog and I am excited to utilize some of the resources you have. I have taught students with learning differences since 1994. Currently, I am working with three year olds so I am looking for some helpful resources. Do you suggest anything in particular? I taught 2nd-3rd graders for many years so I have a lot of resources for that age range.

Hi Cam-
I have some of my favorite materials in this post: http://michellespecialeducation.blogspot.com/2008/05/favorite-materials.html

For three year olds, specifically, I also love color sorting tubs, shape and color sorting manipulatives, potato head (Wal Mart has one that has 4 potato heads with lots of accessories).

I love Handwriting Without Tears (the cd and the wooden pieces are well worth the money)....Mat Man is a particular class favorite.

I'll have to think some more on this.....maybe it'll be my next post! :-)

Dear Math Enthusiast,
Hi. I am a Middle School Math teacher. I spent the summer making a website geared directly for grades 6-8. I want students to have a site where they can practice their math skills while still having fun. I have personally made the games.
If you have a place on your website to put a link, please do so. My site is located at: www.HoodaMath.com
Feel free to email me back with a link or a suggestion.
Thank you,
Michael Edlavitch

The students find school a lot more fun, entertaining and most of all, very educational with today’s interactive teaching technology. Given the kind of lessons, it’s definitely a win-win situation for both teachers and students. Yes, technology never failed to impress us all these years. :)
